Even a well seasoned gallery artist sometimes does not come home with a great painting while painting outdoors! Let award winning plain~air painter, and Professional Art Instructor John H. Burrow show you the ropes of painting in the great outdoors! We will meet at assigned locations throughout the area and paint outdoors together! Yahoo!

This journey will begin with an outdoor painting equipment overview... Some of the do’s and don’ts. Working in comfort, and with the sun on your side! From painting just outside you’re car … to going on longer walks or hikes with your paint kit you will learn to get more satisfaction out of your finished outdoor painting! Your paintings will come alive and look more natural when learning how to handle color in the great outdoors.

 

Supply List:

2 - 4 Cotton or linen canvases, or canvas panels.
Size:  8 x 10”  or...  9 x 12”  or...  12 x 16”.

 

Oil or Acrylic Paint (YOUR CHOICE):

Titanium white and any colours you have/like. I use: Cadmium Yellow Light or... Cadmium Yellow Medium, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Medium, Quinacradone Magenta, Alizarin Crimson, Transparent Red Oxide. Pthalo Green, Sap Green, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Dioxazine Purple, and yes… Black.

 

Portable easel, or...    Table Top easel…    or…   various types of Pauchade Box's

 

Palette or... paper palette

 

Palette Knife. (Approximate 2 inches to three inches in length).

 

If you are working in oils: odourless mineral spirits ONLY, PLEASE DO NOT BRING TURPENTINE (I use Gamblin Gamsol)  if you like using it (Walnut Oil or something similar)

 

small open containers to pour these in for use while painting.

 

Brush Cleaning Container with screen for cleaning brushes.

paper towel (at least one full roll of good absorbent paper, shop towels are best)

 

Small plastic bags for garbage.

Brushes: I use mostly flats: 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch, and 1inch.  and one small round.  (if you can get some Mongoose or Badger flats, these are really nice, as well as either hoghair ( I like Robert Simmons) or Silver synthetics

 

 

Sketchbook and pencils or... Sharpie style black markers.

A Comfortable portable chair and umbrella if you wish!
Bottled water or drinks if you wish!

 

PLEASE BRING PROFESSIONAL QUALITY BRUSHES AND PAINT.
